The Kelly Writers House will offer two ten-week summer internships. One intern will serve as an editorial assistant for Jacket2 magazine. Jacket2 is an online journal of poetry and poetics that publishes articles, reviews, interviews, commentary, and podcasts. Student editorial assistants help with all aspects of the editorial pipeline, working closely with the managing editor to gain experience in proofreading, art acquisition, content management, and online publishing.
Interns with specific interest in contemporary poetry may also have the opportunity to write short reviews of new poetry books for potential publication in the magazine. The ideal intern will have interests in modern and contemporary poetry, scholarly editing, and/or online publishing.A second intern will help with our Summer Workshop for Young Writers, a ten-day, intensive residential program at Penn for talented high school writers from all over the country. The Summer Workshop intern will work closely with and report to the Workshop Director. Intern duties include gathering and collating workshop materials, planning excursions and activities, serving as a teaching assistant in the primary writing workshop, managing materials for a post-workshop anthology of student writing, and assisting with all program logistics. The student selected for this internship will learn about creative writing workshop development and teaching, as well as the administrative work that goes into executing a 10-day residential academic program.
